ASUS ROG GL502VS-DS71 black screen

Has anyone else had an issue with this computer booting up to a black screen? I've looked on youtube and it seems to be a fairly common issue. I don't get the cursor so I'm guessing it's not a windows setting for multiple monitors ... based on what I've found. I've seen anything from bios fixes to having to reset (with heat) the video chip. Any help is appreciated. FYI, I'm a novice ... be gentle.

Make sure it is plugged into the GPU's HDMI and not the MOBO.

Seeing as this is a laptop, that is an irrelevant point.

The likelihood of someone here having that exact laptop is slim..

However, do you still have a warranty on this unit? If this is a common/known issue you might be best to return the machine outright or if this isn't an option, look at an RMA (under warranty) with ASUS.

I could recommend other options, but if you are a novice as you mentioned - trying to technically troubleshoot your laptop may be unwise. In addition, with a laptop they are essentially as-is and not upgradable except for say RAM, or a hard disk so whatever 'heat' method you've seen on youtube or been recommended by someone is a risky move and one that would both wreck your laptop and certainly render any existing warranty obsolete.

Also could be failing hdd or or just corrupt windows installation if you can actually see a post screen.

Oh crap. Sorry about that.
