Asus the most Reliable Brand besides Apple?

Well what are your thoughts. Asus seems to be the most reliable Brand and their Accidental Damage Protection is unbeatable. I'm not much of an experienced guy though with laptops. this will be my first one and it has to last me for a long time. I'm looking at the Asus K-series with an I5 and nvidia graphics. I think the K53SD-DS51 will suite my needs for specs. for doing some home video editing and very little gaming. I just need to make the right choice for reliability. Is Toshiba more reliable?

What are your opinions? and thanks for any help

I'd go with Dell if I had to buy another laptop. The warranty service fixed my roommates laptop when the hard drive failed after 3-5 years of ownership.

For starters Asus Tech support is in California for one so no non english speaking tech support. I had a dog chew up my laptop cable and they replaced no questions asked.

My Dell's I have owned average about 5 years. I currently have a Vaio and from what I have read Sony Vaio usually last longer then the average Mac. It has been a great computer, minimal bloat ware and there hardware works with many different operating systems such as Windows, Linux and BSD.

Business grade Dell Latitudes are amazing. I've had mine for almost three years (warranty is up this July) without an issue. Although I will admit my next laptop will be a MacBook (using BootCamp of course).

Anecdotal evidence of a brand's reliability is pretty much worth what you pay for it. For instance, we have 4 3-year old Acer netbooks in our family that have never given us any issues. Does that mean Acer is the most reliable brand? No, but I think they are a good value for the price. We also have 2 Asus netbooks that have been trouble free. No real conclusion can be drawn from such a small sample size.

I wonder why all the computers I buy last virtually forever regardless of brand? I have some operational computers that are more than 25 years old. I believe misuse/abuse plays a larger part in how long a computer lasts rather than what brand you choose.

I had a Macbook Pro I bought this year for about three days and then I was so done with it I took it back to best buy. I prefer any linux distro to OSX and from some of my friends I talked to they said I started on the wrong OS because OSX Lion is no were near as good as Leopard or Snow Leopard. I would not recommend any Apple product to anyone.

Which is why I would run Windows on my Mac. The Mac OS is absolute garbage. I feel computer retarded when I use it.

I personally don't care for the Macbook styling, but you get some pretty good performance (about the same as my current Dell Latitude) with double the battery life. The battery life is the best feature IMO. Plus I really need to start learning the Mac OS since I'm in the IT field and have very little experience with it.

The Macbook Pro battery life is a little deceiving, I think I averaged 5 hours which is no better then what my Vaio gets, difference is $500 of price tag.

Don't get me wrong, the Macbook is one of the nicest computers I have owned appearance wise so I don't blame you for getting one to put Windows on I just hope it is not for battery and build quality because Asus and Sony equally match that for a lot less. Plus if you need that performance there is always Ubuntu, which for some reason I have noticed on the Ubuntu forums that Apple users have a hell of a time with hardware working on there Mac using Ubuntu for some reason.

The only thing I am envious of regarding Apple laptops is the clever magnetic power connector. I've seen too many power jacks on other laptops that were damaged from someone tripping over the power cord.
