At a loss

i posted a thread on the GPU forum a few days ago but i think ive figured it wasnt a graphics issue, or at least i dont think it is,
any way heres my spec

Intel P4 3.4 skt 775
asus p5vdc-x MOBO
2gb corsair ddr2 ram
POV 6800 gt pci - e graphix thingy
m audio delta 1010 audio interface (pci)
jean tech 500watt psu

and a hell of a lot of fans

basically. everything is brand new, and with all the fans etc the system is running at a very good temp, (CPU approx 45 celcious and below):) )
however, wen ever i try playing a game i can for about 10 minutes and then the system reboots itself, or i can be browsing the internet and then it will do it again. ive had this problem ever since i replaced my old ecs mobo for the asus which was about a week ago, and i am at a total loss as to why its doing it.
ive spoken to a cuple of people who hav given me differnt theories including the mobo being faulty? or possibly even the psu. but as there all new i shudnt see why unless ther defective. but i thought i would post this problem one last time to see if n e one could shed n e lite on the matter,

power readings are as follows.

Vcore - 1.38v
+3.3 - 3.31v
+5 - 5.38v
+12 - 11.19v
cpu - 36C
MB - 31C
PWR - 46C
Cpu fan speed 3000 rpm
Chassis speed 2556 rpm
power speed 2057 rpm

id appriciate any help any one can give me

jean tech 500watt psu? Never heard of that one before. It sounds like a generic low cost supply that could be unstable. When you are loading the cpu and especially video card while gaming you are drawing more off of the supply. If the current level is then dropping you would see the sudden restarts from that. A shaky bios needing an update or weak battery can also cause problems.

Either way it's too low, and we can't be sure if it's real voltage couse programs usually don't read correctly.

well... my asus probe does give a warning when the voltages are off by 10% at default settings.

but thats a pic from a PSU he has?

What pic? You mean the one I posted earlier?

Nah, it's not from his PSU, it shows the minimum and maximum safe voltage for all ATX PSU's.

And his voltage on 12V rail is far below the minimum safe voltage according to software he used, I still recommend to test it via multimeter.

done the multimeter tests

it seems that most of you believe that im having a PSU problem, so i took your advice and used a multi meter to test the true voltages.
i could only do 2 of the rails 12v and 5v as my PSU does not hav an AUX connector. but the probe software is telling me that the reading is 3.3 - 3.6V

any ways the readings i got are as follows

12v | 5v
Post 11.5V | 5.29V
Boot 11.06V | 5.3V
Startup 11.8V | 5.3
Idle 10.9/11.4V | 5.3
Under Load 10.9/11.3V | 5.3/5.45V
Shut Down 11.4V | 5.3/4.9V

i also found that when the system is powered off i get a 0.5V reading on the 12v rail? is that normal?

none of these readings are what i would class as stable readings as they wer never really set on the readings stated above, the multimeter was literally jumping from one reading to another but tended to stay around the voltages above, however when idle and under load the voltages where jumping between the range of 10.9 and 11.4v which i found strange, especially considering that the guide says the 11.4 should really be the minimum that the rail should be at. so therefore suspision would say that the PSU is the fundamental problem im having.

i have decided that im goin to test it with a different PSU, however it is only a 350watt, but i never had a problem with that one. but ill test it any ways.
if you all think that the psu is deffinatly the problem then can any one reccomend a reliable PSU that is around the 500watt mark as i need one that is capable of powerin my national grid sucking graphics card and audio interface.

cheers for all your help

Yup, looks like your PSU is having trouble. That 12v is WAY low at 11.1-10.9v.

Just a quick question though. When you swapped motherboards, did you update/change all your motherboard related drivers?

That supply is a disaster in simple terms. Just seeing the low voltages there at idle tellls it all. h u z i 666 would have to go into the device manager and right click to uninstall each item selectively. He may be better off with a repair install of Windows where he then choose the installer on the board's cd for this.

350w Psu

i tryed the 350W PSU last nite and all is well, the computer hasnt shut down once and now im gettin an 11.99 /12v readin on the multimeter, looks like im goin to pc world and swingin the old 500wat psu in sum faces,
thanks for all your help tho, after so many different responses from people outside the forum tellin me its this and that and then it turnin out not to be, im glad i signed up here and got the right answer straight away :) cheers again folks

The voltages being seen less then this or that is normal when there is no current being drawn from the supply. In other words when you aren't running the system as you normally would the supply sits without a load to measure the actual output. It's more common to see an unstable supply see amps drop off when you put a good load on it. PAying a little for a good brand supply is always worth it since you can run a system without it.
