at my wits end, please help

I have an EEEPC 1000 that I've completely messed up. Almost a month ago I removed a SD card while it was still actively transferring images (my SD reader is built in if that makes a difference) at the moment of removal my computer froze and I got a dark blue/black screen. Ever since then, at random times, my computer will freeze and/or I'll get the black screen. Occasionally I'll get a boot error that says certain files are missing or corrupt but I've reinstalled a nlite version of XP Home and I reformatted the HD (it's solid state if that matters) before I did the reinstall so nothing should be missing or corrupt with the OS.

I did a RAM test and it came back clean. I've also done random other things that people on other forums have suggested with no success.

As an added complication, my optical drive is external and I can't get it to be recognized now (since I did the OS reinstall) so I can't boot from it.

I've tried to keep this short while still providing the necessary info but if you need more, please ask. I've gone beyond frustrated and am considering buying a new laptop but I really don't have the money right now.

Thanks in advance!

You sure the nLite copy was clean? From what you wrote, it wasn't clear whether you made the copy or acquired it - either way, it might have something extra you don't want (virus, trojan, malware, corruption), or might not have something you need (stripped out a part it needs to function).

Just a clarification, but reformatting the HDD doesn't actually ensure that your OS (or parts thereof) is not missing or corrupted. It will make sure there are no parts of the old system left, but as for ensuring the new system works - it's a dud.

What's the make and model of your optical device? There will be drivers available online that you can download and install.

Thanks for the response. This was going on before I installed the new OS (this happening is WHY I reinstalled the OS) and I'm sure that it's clean, I got it from a friend. I followed the exact instructions I used for the original install so I don't think anything is missing.

I don't have the model number with me but it's a LG so when I get home I'll find it.

I've had people suggest that it's a hardware issue (memory or HD) but I've tested the memory and don't know how to test the HD (was not able to find a test for a solid state drive).

I just don't know where to go from here. I'd really hoped reinstalling the OS would help but nothing changed.

Hmm, either way I can't see that removing the SD card would have done any lasting damage if it was only transferring images. Still, I wouldn't recommend it, but it shouldn't have any adverse effects as described.

Have you noticed the machine getting hot at all lately? As for an SSD checker, I have no idea, but for all the other stuff I've done in the past, SeaTools DOS has been awesome.

I haven't noticed it becoming particularly hot unless I've used it inappropriately (ex: on top of a pillow, etc.) and then I'd move it and it'd be fine.

I know the SD thing sounds weird but it is really the only parallel I could find, it was the only thing I did that was abnormal.

I will check out that tool, thanks.
