ATA-100 vs. SATAII???

After reading through FAQ about HD's I just came up with one fast question.

Will I see the difference in speed (like time it takes to open programs or window's load time) if I change from ATA-100 to SATAII?

You probably will, but I don't think it'll be as huge of a difference as most people think. Many drives still are stuck around SATA150 speeds due to drive limitations.

Also, it depends on what drive you get. If have an IDE drive with 8M cache, and "upgrade" to one with only 2M, you might see a decrease in speed... Regardless of the actualy interface, the "real" speed is the drive itself.
 
It depends largely on the spindle speed. If they are both 7200 RPM then probably not. Even the cache won't make that much difference unless you are transferring large sequential files.

Actually, The_Other_One, drives are pretty much stuck at ATA100 speeds at the moment. The only drive that comes close to saturating SATA150 buses are the WD Raptors.
 
Well, the HD that I am getting is Sata 3.0Gb (so it's transfer rate is prolly 200-300mb/s) VS ATA-133 which is 100mb/s.) Well anyway it doesnt matter anymore because I ordred the damn things already so in 2days I'll post is I felt any difference between

I wouldnt say that.

The average transfer speed is fairly similar on ATA-133 and SATAII drives, although the burst rate on SATAII drives is much higher. For example, the burst rate on my drive is somewhere around 180MBps, which you wont as easily achieve on a drive interface that is lower then that.

Not at all, the average transfer rate of drives ranging from ATA100-SATAII are around 70-75MB/s if they have the same cache and speed. Mine has an average rate of 74MB/s.
