alright, well i just opened up my new HP computer to add a 2nd hard drive that i got from my old computer. the old hard drive is a seagate 120gig barracuda ATA drive, but my new system only has connections on the motherboard for a SATA drive. what can i do? is there a conversion cable that i can use?... if so, are there any negative side effects from doing this? for instance, slowing down the speed of the other hard drive or slowing the operating system, etc...? thanks for any help.

There has to be a ide connector on the motherboard, how do your cd drives connect?

yes, there is an ide connector on the motherboard, but the dvd rom is connected to this cable. i've always thought that the hard drive should not be connected to the same cable as your media drives.

anyone know where to find and SATA to ATA hard drive cable? can't seem to find one on google. thanks again.
