Athlon 3200

Hi,

My friend just got a new computer...

It has an Athlon 64 3200 CPU in it...

However it only shows up as 1.0 GHZ?

Why is this?

Is it the FSB?

Thanks, Danny

What speed does it show while it's booting/during POST. I suspect it's just AMD's Cool 'n Quiet. My 4200 shows it's running at 994MHz right now.

There's a program, more for laptops, called SpeedSwitchXP. You can grab that and set the "External Power" setting to Max Performace, and it should lock it in at it's full speed. ...or you could just disable it in the BIOS :P

Yes, its normal speed is 2.0Ghz.
Kornowski never specified whether his friends Athlon 64 3200+ is Socket 939 or 754, so you cannot be certain that it's normal speed is 2.0GHz, as Socket 754 3200+'s ran at 2.2GHz.

However, "new" computers rarely have Socket 754 processors, they normally have Socket 939 or AM2.

I'm going to have to wait till after Christmas for him to change it... Well check it out, but thanks for the help!

I don't kow what Socket it is, I know it's a Dell C521 though...

Don't know if that helps...

that really doesnt have anything to do with the question, but i wouldnt know what the latest question is anyways, cause i havent bothered to flip the page to page 2. :P

I've seen that page before, There's about 3 different builds of the computer... I knows it's an Athlon 64 3200+ though, so, I guess it runs at 2 GHZ, I'll ask him after Christmas! Thanks though! :D
