which is better? I will may or may not over clock.
Is the E6850 the best chip under $300.00?

E6850... especially for overclocking... I'd go fro a Q6600 for the price. 2 more cores at the same price.

I was under the impression that there was no software that would utilize the extra two cores. By the time the quad core software came out, the quad core chips will be newer, better and cheaper.

http://clubit.com/product_detail.cfm?itemno=A1938452 <- there we go. Grab it while it's cheap, or wait til after December for the other Intel Quads :)

Why is everyone telling me to get the Q6600? It is not as good IMHO. It only is a 2.4ghz and only has 1066fsb. And, once again there is no software to ultilize the extra two cores. They will be a waste. By the time the quad core software come out, the quad core chips will be newer, better and cheaper.

Just because 1 single piece of software cannot utilise the cores does not render them useless.

Other processes that run in the background can run on the other cores leaving more processing power dedicated to the programs that need it on other cores. Well this was the impression I got anyway.
