Are they both dual-core processors? I need to upgrade my CPU, but am confined to an older socket 939 motherboard.

ya x2 is dual core..but it would be cheaper just getting a new am2+ am3 cpu motherboard and memory the 939 cpu would cost more then a whole new setup theese days :D

I don't have that kind of money though :( And I just bought another 2GB of DDR memory.

I'd have to get memory, mobo, processor, and heatsink (I don't like stock heatsinks)

939 was a good setup though. Built quite a few of them.

It is. And I have a great nForce 4 chipset. It's a great gaming machine that can handle almost anything. It's just I have a new HD4870 and my CPU is bottlenecking it (Oc'd mine as much as I probably can). I'd like the fastest dual-core 939 there is (I'd overclock it more), but they are all way too expensive on ebay.

Just save like $50 from every pay check until you can afford a new setup. No point in being impatient and investing more money into an obsolete tech. Buying a new 939 processor is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Yeah - when I work - which is never cause I'm in college and don't really have a job anymore.

All you need to do is pick up an AM2+ motherboard that supports AM3 processors.

Pick up this motherboard-

And this CPU-

Memory-

Those are compatable with the rest of your setup. A little under $200 and you got yourself practically double the performance. You may be able to part out the rest of your setup and get 1/2 or that back. I know the ram you could sell reall quick for $50-75 since 2x1gb is $50 new. So you should be able to get atleast $100 for your mobo/cpu/ram. Now it makes this upgrade really worth it.

Not worth it to me. I'm just going to wait cause if I change the mobo, then I'm going to get a new everything. Maybe over the summer when I have a decent cash flow coming in.

That pretty much is everything you need to change. There's nothing wrong with your hard drives, video card, power supply, case, etc.

You kidding me? I like my case visually, but it's too cramping.

OK but I'm just saying you won't have to buy a case now, what you have will work until you can afford to get a newer case too.
