ati 4870 engin 500mhz memory 900mhz is this to slow?

what the title says basically, just that my gpu is running at these speeds and i think it is to slow. If you know why or can help me get this sorted it would be great.

Nope, thats fine. Most graphics cards underclock when not being used. My 4870 x2 runs at 500mhz until I stress it, then it ramps up to my OC'ed Mhz.

I think stock Mhz on the 4870 is 750, so it should ramp up to there.
 
That must be an ATI thing. :confused:

My GTX 260 doesn't underclock, but I can understand how it could be a nice feature. :good:

You're probably right, I didn't really think about Nvidia.

But with the 4650, 5750, and 4870 x2, I have experienced this underclocking, much like the Cool n' Quiet feature for AMD CPU's
 
Just an FYI both nvidia and ati cards underclock. I have had cards that do not underclock in the past, all of them were faulty or failed soon after buying :eek:

My card always run the same speed. Always has since I built it about 2 years ago.

Maybe it's like the refrigerator light...:P

None of the cards that I've had that don't underclock have failed on me, I only ever got rid for upgrades, and this is cards from 10+ years ago up to my 8600GT's. After that they all underclocked and started with problems until updates (I think the 3870 I got off you underclocked did it not :confused:)

However, the ones that have underclocked have had driver issues when they have underclocked themselves and not set the clocks back to what they should be when gaming. Great feature eh :P
 
I believe my GTX460 underclocks while idle, from the looks of MSI Afterburner monitoring, so it's not only ATI, but Nvidia too.

Probably the software (Afterburner) doing it. :cool:

I only install drivers when I get a new card, not the
whole software suite they want you to install.
