ATI 5870HD Low FPS

I recently purchased an ATI 5870HD video card and it is running at fairly low fps. BFBC2 runs an average of 25-30fps at 1920x1080. I have a 2.6ghz dual core cpu. I have all of the current drivers. Any suggestions on why the fps are so low?
 
Im having the same problem with my 4890 and BC2...its either Ati,s latest drivers or the latest BC2 patch thats killed performance..Im sure its the Ati drivers though because GTA IV has not been running right here either :cool:

i rolled back to the previus ati driver but still got the same issues?
 
what is the load on your cpu? BFBC2 is coded for quad cores so that might explain why it is not performing well. I can't say much for the update, I haven't downloaded it yet.
 
Your CPU is bottlenecking I'd say. If all settings are high for BC2 then that will be your problem because BC2 is, as salvage-this said, coded for quad core CPUs. A dual core will play it, but won't able to play it at higher settings with decent FPS

I support what Aastii said...your CPU is surely the bottleneck...go and check a few graphs on tomshardware.com and you'll see what difference these quad core processors make as compared to dual cores, specially in many latest games...they probably haven't yet benchmarked BC2, but just by looking at the genberal trend, you'll understand that the CPU is the problem...try something---try lowering the settings and post benchmarks(avg framerates) for low, med and high...how much difference graphics settings have on the frame rates can be important...but its almost surely ur CPU...
 
Thanks for your responses and at this point I plan on upgrading to a quad core but I still don't understand why my GPU load is so low at 0% for periods. I tested BFBC2 on low settings at 1920x1080 and I was getting from 40-70 fps (15-50 on medium). Here is a screen shot of my GPU load. 39% was the peak.

OS: XP 32bit

All drivers are current.
 
I also heard that BC2 doesnt realy like Xp and that its quite buggy,This game was meant for DX11 so i would recommend upgrading to Windows 7 X64 bit.

Still though....it doesnt explain why i also get low fps all of a sudden because i DO have a high clocked Quad core and 7 X64 bit :o
 
I ordered a new power supply (700W instead of 430W), a new motherboard, ram, and quad core cpu in hopes of fixing the problem.

Oddly enough though, I tested MW2 and Resident Evil 5 and they both use full GPU.
 
i too ran into a bottleneck a while back when trying to SLI the two cards i have right now, with that same chip, they just didnt seem to perform very well, adding a faster dual core, then finally a quad core, did solve the problem, the cpu just could not manage the cards
 
Can you return that and get your money back?

Get a decent psu,something from OCZ,Corsair,Antec Etc.
 
only thing ive owned from them is a cheapie keyboard... id honestly go with corsair's 650W or 750W supply, plus they come with a velvet bag :D
 
BC2 is VERY cpu dependent, I run 1920x1200 on a 9800gt with a core i7 cpu, unless I turn off world community grid(like folding) I get a big drop in fps

+1 for it being a crap unit. Stick to the better brands:

Corsir, PC P&C, Be Quiet!, Antec, BFG, Silverstone, Seasonic

I think 650W would be a little bit of overkill though. You would be able to run yours system on a 500W unit, so long as it is from a good brand, easily. My case is Apevia (was aspire when I bought it) and is a POS. It came with a PSU, and my parents friend who built it for me made the smart arse move of putting a POS 700W unit in there, which in his defence was better than the unit that came with my case but was still crap. Bareing in mind this was ~2 and half years ago, that PSU that was better than the apevia one blew from a system with:

Intel E6750
4x2GB OCZ PC6400
Dual 8600GT SLI
2 hard drives
1 DVD drive

That pulled no more than 300W max, and the unit that was BETTER than the Apevia one blew from it, even though it was apparently 700W

When you say it has good reviews, where are you getting this info from? If it is from Newegg or another site, the reviews people give there are completely worthless, because alot of them think so long as it powers up their system, it is the best thing ever, never mind how much power it puts out, how clean the power is or how it will fair a year or two down the line.

That's weird. I have a 4870 which I'm running 1920x1080 with High settings 2x AA 2x AF and I'm getting solid 45-50 frames on BFBC2. I have the same CPU as you too E7300 dual core but I overclocked mine to 3.2, try doing that if you're comfortable.
