ATI 6990 point of 4GB VRAM?

No, VRAM size has nothing to do with processing power, but resolution.
The memory is no different then running two 6970 in crossfire. On the 6990 each GPU only has access to 2GB. of memory.

This isn't like throwing 2GB of memory on a 6450 where it is just so they can charge more. Each core needs the 2GB for when it is on higher resolution monitors. It isn't like having a single GPU with 4GB of memory, because each is simultaneously processing data. How many people do you think who can fork out ~$650-700 on a graphics card are going to be using a low res monitor?
