OK why are there cards made by ati and nvidia for like 1800$ and then there are other card made by other companies that have either ati or nvidia how do you know which to choose

ATI and nVidia sell there chips to other manufacturers, who build the cards and add little features of their own, such as higher clock/memory speeds, different looks, ect. Only ATI makes there own in addition to third parties, nVidia only sells to third parties.

And what card were you talking about for $1800?

Ok whats it for
It's for workstations. Mainly for people who do video encoding, 3D rendering, graphics design, ect.

You can still do all those things with a gamers card, but it wouldnt be as optimized.

the most expensive workstation card can still be outperformed in playing game than the most expensive gamer card even if the price diff is huge because gamer cards are optimised for playing games and workstation cards are optimised for graphics design work.

yea if you want a good gaming card go for a nvidia 7800
Buying a 7800 series card at his point would be insanity. The 7900 series is superior, or X1800XT/1900 for ATi.
