ATi Crossfire

Is it possible to say run an x1800XT and x1900XT vid card at the same time. Basically mix and match different video cards on a crossfire or even SLI m/b?

nope, well im not too hot on the subject but from what i know u can mix the cards unlike nVidia where u have to have the the exact cards for SLi.
But only cards in the series for e.g. any too crossfire compatable cards like any 2 X1900`s.
But you couldnt have 1 X1900 and 1 X1800 in crossfire.

That sounds right. Any idea how much increase it would be to run two x1800s in games? Would I see an improvement or would it be for future games or only for benchmarking?

Yes you can mix video cards with ATI's crossfire. However the cards will just run at the lower cards specs, so there really isnt a point in using crossfire for two different types of cards.

Theres a review and bench marks here so u can make ur own mind up on the matter :)

That's alot of read.... Looks like it would perform better. Maybe later I might have to add another card since by the time i'm ready, they will be that much cheaper :) Hopefully below $200

If that's the case, then obviously not a good idea to go with a more expensive card.

Wow, thats alot of $$ I guess i'm not fully understanding and don't really have time to read all 11 pages of the link, but do you have to get the master card or can you run any two? I hadn't notice the master thing until that article

I have heard you cant run the two together. One has to be a crossfire edition also. But anyways, you can only crossfire two cards in the same family. Example: You can CF a x850PRO and x850 together because they are in the same family where as the 1900 and 1800 aren't.

Im not exactly sure what your trying to show me, but you can crossfire any X1K series card with another, given that it's crossfire capable.

However it would be very ill-advised to do so, since you will lose out on alot of performance.

Im trying too show you that you can only use Some ATi crossfire cards with other cards in there series.

for examle:
ATI Radeon X1900 ***Crossfire Edition*** 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
- Crossfire Edition Master card (Compatible with any Slave X1900 card)

So you couldnt just put that X1900 with a X1800 for example. Or am i wrong ?
