ATI / GeForce

I have ordered my new setup and have a motherboard with a onboard ati 3200 graphics chip. I want to use a Ati graphics card for light gaming but I only understand GeForce cards so need some advice on how to compare?

I was thinking of buying a ATI Radeon HD 4350 because its very cheap or something similar. I was originally going to get a GeForce 9600GT how does this card compare to Nvidia cards I would have thought it would have been inbetween a 9500GT and a 9600GT?

I am planning on playing gta4 on reasonable settings, crysis, need for speed games, sims 3, etc... I have a AMD Phenom 720 (3x 2.8Ghz) and 3GB 800Mhz Ram.

stick with geforce :P

Dont laugh at how stupid this probabily seems because I do have some strange ideas but when the motherboard says it supports ati crossfire well if I use a ati graphics card will this share the power with the onboard GPU? I mean if I get a Geforce 9600GT which seems good value will it not be worse because the board is ati based?

At minimum, a 4650 with gddr3, or a 4670 to be around 9600gt. You can pick up a 4650 gddr3 for around $49.95.

No, unless its a really low end card like a 4350 it cannot do hybrid crossfire, but your board if i recall right has two pci-e 2.0 x16 slots that allow you to run two graphics cards in crossfire.

what will you be doing thats so resource heavy?

GTA4 and Crysis are about the two most demanding games you could want to play. On any low end card you'd have a very hard time getting them to run on such low end hardware. Either lower your expectations or increase your budget, because sadly, there is no magic cheap card that runs all the newest games great. Although your closest bet is probably a 4770 if you can afford it. It will run most games without too much difficulty, although GTA4 and Crysis will still give you a run for your money.

idk my version of crysis must be wierd (unless im misstaken) it runs on my 7300gt lol (wish i could dig up the money for something better)

I wouldn't rely on the on-board GPU for much of a boost. If you want to game I would either get the 9600GT or invest a bit more for say a ATI 4850 or 9800GT.

If you look on craigslist.com you can almost ALWAYS find a cheap one...I bought 4 9800GT just yesterday for $45 each which I turned around and sold to my buddies for $70 ^-^

I also don't like ATI drivers as much as Nvidia...I have always had horrible experiences with ATI drivers throughout the years so I gave up on them.

I agree ran ok on my 7600GT 256mb on low/medium on 1024x768 but needed a 8800GT for a 1440x900 monitor ^-^
