ATI / nVidia number correspondence

Ok, call me stupid, but I just noticed this. The lower end current gen ATI card is the X1300. The lower end current gen nVidia card is the 7300. They both have 300 at the end. Same for the X1600 / 7600 , X1800, 7800 , and X1900 / 7900 series. Does the ending number mean anything technically? Or is it just coincidence?
 
the end number is kinda the series within the series


like Nvidia has hte 7 series and ATI has the X1k series


higher the end number usually means new technology

Like Impr3ssiv3 said it's merely just to distinguish the cards from each other. It's purely for marketing.
