ATi or Nvidia?

I'm building a new system (mobo has crossfire technology)...I'm not a gamer at all (may want to try it in the near future though)...do alot of heavy CADD work...have an ATi x1300 512mb in my current system...had an Nvidia card a few years ago (wasn't real fond of it).

So, should I stick with ATi because I can use the crossfire at a later date if I want to...and if so what card(s) do you people recommend...or

Do I switch back to Nvidia and get an 8800GTS and not worry about crossfire at a later date?

*not made of money, but certainly don't want to throw away a good video card later because I suddenly want to be a gamer

A 8800GTS is probably one of the best cards you can get around it's price range. If that's what you can afford, I'd say go with it. Don't bother with crossfire or SLI. Typically a good single card will outperform duel cards.

I would choose nVidia because it seems like they have an overall better support for their products. Support, such as, more SLi mobo than Crossfire (that's if you even want to venture that path), better drivers and an overall better track record.

Helps that I have an account at Dell...so I can buy now, pay later...

I was looking on Newegg at the same card (just the 320mb) version and those are going for $300...another $30 for double the mb is a no brainer!
