just incase people waiting for it to come out haven't seen the news from yesterday. I'm astounded by the amount of power needed, 270w each! Throw two of them badboys in crossfire drawing 640w and play an average of 4 hours a week and thats approx. 2.6kw/hr *4 weeks in a month thats 10.24 kw/hrs. At 11.03 cents a kw/hr those cards alone add another $1.12 a month to your electric bill. Remember that its only 4 hours a week playing time as well :D :D :P

They are probably over exaggerating on the power supply, that is ridiculous. As far as a delay, it only means they are willing to push it back because it is not yet perfect, it is going to blow Nvidia out of the water! BLAM!

:-P

Doesn't 270*2 = 540? o.O

I know who I don't want doing any work on my computer, anytime soon :]

I dunno, I haven't quite decided on the GPU I want for the new build. With the driver issues going on at nvidia I might be pushed into getting an ATI card. Like I said though, idk. I'm waiting until the intel price drop anyway so we'll see what happens by then.

that is what they call in the business SPC (suggested power consumption) they give themselves a very large cuchion to work with, quite a few watts over what they are really projecting that the GPU's will use

(also, they say that you would need a 1200 watt PSU. they are exxagerating by a lot, i would think that the most you would need, (with crossfired R600's and a Q6700) you would only need about 700-1000 watts, a significant drop from the forcasted 1200

Argh. I read this a few days ago. Generally I prefer ATi over Nvidia....but ATi is pathetic right now. It is disgusting.

ever heard of the shotgun and the barrel metaphor? this will be like shooting fish in a shot glass with a bazooka

I'm gonna laugh if Ageia;s new physx card winds up destroying both the 8950GX and the R600.....but then I'd wake up and have to go back to work :D :D

.............how many Watts does the 8800GTS 320MB take? And can you run 2 of those thermaltake GPU only additional power supplies at one time for them? Not that I want to SLI...er...emm....Crossfire them, but just a question...

I don't think they are. Video card power consumption has been rediculously high for a long time now. The problem is, unless someone figures out a way to do more work without simply adding more processing units and with that, millions of transistors (look at the transistor count on the video cards from the Geforce256 up to the 8800s the jump is silly) the power usage is only going to keep skyrocketing.

SOLAR POWERED VIDEO CARD ftw!!!!!!!!! :)
Computer cases without a side panel get kinda dark :P

lol, if they ever did make something like that.
People would buy it, just because it's the latest.
Then put it in their case, and be like WTF WHY DOESNT IT WORK?!

Just like the asshats that are buying the Socket F opteron procs, and whine when they find out that a limited selection of mainboards use them, and they need 2 procs :s

Doing your research = a beautiful thing.
