What is the point of buying an SLI board for......ATI?

Becuase they dont make many crossfire boards, so if you dont plan on getting another in the future. Then get an SLI board, there are much more of them and make much better models.

But he's getting an ATI card, so that's still pretty much useless. They have good crossfir boards out, from ASUS, DFI, Etc.

True, but maybe hes already bought it.

Bought what? the mobo or the card?

If he bought the mobo already, I would recommend and Nvidia card (7900GTX) over the 1900xtx because, obviously, the board is more optimized for it, and can run two of those cards if needed. If he already bought the card, then well, I would tell him to get a crossfire or non crossfire board, like the DFI-lanparty UT for example.
