ATI Radeon x800 reboots while playing a game

Hello,

I have had x800 for about a year now and all of a sudden it started giving me problems. When i am playing a game with a decent graphics (Need for Speed: Most Wanted, HOMM5 or Titan Quest) it gives me an error message like graphics card had to reset and whole screen goes blank for few moments then jumps back into a game. After few such resets the whole system reboots :( . Sometime weird blocks would appear on the screen distorting the image.

I haven't had this problem before. I have all the latest drivers, I tried Catalyst and Omega both with same results. Windows is fully patched.

System:
AMD 3600+
Kingston DDR Ram 1024Mb
Asus A8N-E Motherboard
ATI Radeon x800 256Mb Video Card

Any help on how to resolve this annoying issue is greatly appreciated.

I was about to say try another power supply, but when you mention distortion, I suspect a bad video card. If you can test the video card in another system, do. Or, if you can test another PSU in yours, try that...

my psu is pretty crappy, I think it is like 300W... Max temp was like 56C, it is not too high is it? Image distortion is kinda rare and I can live with it as long as I ll get rid of hang ups.

I ll try swapping with my brother's psu, we ll see what happens.

56 is just fine.

Download ati tools and run some tests on the card, including artifacts test. Also, how many 12v+ rail amps on the psu?

I am not sure of how many rail amps are on the psu... I know its pretty cheap 300W psu. I tried running artifacts scan and the temp jumped to over 100C, computer froze and I had to reboot. Tried few other tests with the same result

*edit
I have used speedfan software to check temps and I think it gave me a lower temp reading than it actual was. ATI tools shows ~65C if i am just surfing the net. Over a 100 if i do tests

*edit2
I did artifacts scan, system froze, I rebooted and thats what I found as a last line in a log file:
Artifacts detected after 01:00.01. 4 pixels don't match.
