ATI Radeon x850 Pro Issues!

Hello and thank you for taking interest in my problem! I recently got an ATI Radeon x850 Pro and am attempting to install it on my desktop PC. On my first attempt everything worked fine. Here is what I did:

- Powered down machine. (Did not disable onboard graphics in device manager because it it my understanding that this is an automatic process when installing a new graphics card.)
- Set display detection in BIOS to AGP/ONBOARD
- Removed stock 250w psu
- Installed aftermarket 300w psu (ATI "recommends" 350w or better)
- Installed the card
- Plugged the monitor into the VGA port on the card
- Powered up machine
- Booted to Windows and installed the driver
- Ran dxdiag and everything tested ok but noticed that the test option for AGP Texture Acceleration wasn't available
- Tested out a game (Dungeons And Dragons Online > system requirements)
- The game worked fine for about 10 minutes but locked up so I had to manually reboot.
- On reboot, I got no output from the monitor so I tried plugging the monitor into the onboard VGA port and still no output.
- Powered down
- Removed the card from the motherboard and kept the monitor plugged into the onboard VGA port
- Powered up
- Uninstalled all ATI graphics drivers
- Powered down
- Reinstalled card to the motherboard
- Powered up and still no output from either the card or on board VGA ports.

So we came to the conclusion that I needed to upgrade the power supply. So today I went to the local computer store and picked up a 450w Tiger psu. While I was there I spoke with a technician and he told me that it could potentially be that the motherboard may not "like" or be compatible with the graphics card. So I took home my new psu and gave it a try. After installing the new psu I am still getting NO OUTPUT from either VGA port. I tried installing the drivers first but the driver I downloaded directly from ATI will not allow me to install them without the card being installed.

UPDATE!

- Found I didn't have the latest bios installed because HP doesn't update their drivers support site
- Flashed the new BIOS and tried the card without any luck
- Reset the CMOS and tried the card without any luck.
- HELP!!

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

My System:

- HP Pavilion a532x
- Windows XP Pro SP3
- AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.07 GHz, 960 MB RAM
- Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 installed

Have you tried resetting the cmos?

Does the computer work fine again, if u take the card out and plug back into onboard video, i dont think u even have to change ur bios to agp it should automatically see that card in the agp slot and use it. Also i would suggest trying the card on another machine, maybe the card is faulty.

Yes, the only way for me to get any output is to remove the card from the board and plug the monitor back into the VGA slot to run off of the integrated graphics. And I do believe you're right about the machine automatically detecting a hardware device installed in the AGP slot but I did read somewhere that you might have to manually set the BIOS to AGP...I figured it was worth a shot. I have yet to try the card in another machine although the friend that gave it to me (happeharkore) said it worked fine in his machine which also has a VIA chipset. I talked to another technician today and he told me that a good way to verify that the card is defective is to look at the gold connectors that plug in to the VGA slot and see if any of them are faded or blackened in which case mine is just fine. When the card is installed on the board it does get power also, is there any way to test it with a voltometer when it's powered up?

Did you plug the card into the 12v, meaning has it got a power cable from the power supply directly to the card?

I'm sure he has, or else the computer would beep at him.
Just test it in another machine to see if it works. If not, the card is bad. If so,
get a new power supply and retry.

When it comes to the power connections, my understanding of this is a little cloudy. The card is plugged in directly to the psu via a 4 Pin Molex Connector, another cable (if you notice, this is a 4 female slot cable but only 3 are in use because there are only 3 wires red, white and black) that plugs into the card here and plugs into the board here (I plugged it in here because I couldn't find another spot of the board for it to plug in to). I'm not too sure about these cables, any more information on proper installation of these would be great.

I had this card a while back, it's a monster!
I never had to plug anything other than the 4Pin Molex in. Try it with only the molex, then if that doesn't work, try it in another computer.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, disable the onboard video in the BIOS, as it may still be trying to use it.
