I am using the ATi tool for my first time. whenever I run a find max core or find max mem my system crashes. Is this supposed to happen so it knows the highest setting before a crash?
 
It's not suppose to crash, it's supposed to test for the maximum overclock before atifacting, thn lower it and find a "safe ground" for your mm and core overclocks.

You might experience a momentary lack of control/glitch, or some small artifacting, bu it shoul not crash the entire computer. I'd suggest not overclocking wih ATiTool if it harms the PC, or at all really. Check for overheating...
 
whenever I open ATiTool after a crash it shows last stable settings. I used those and gained 1000 points in 3Dmark so im happy.
 
Hmm, well if they work after the crash then I guess you can stick with it. I used ATiTool and it never crashed my computer after an overclock, but I was using a pretty old card too.
