[Ati x800 gto 256mb] Prob With Counter Strike Steam

a friend of mine just got this card.. he installed everything and he runned F.E.A.R .. and it just runned fine .. (very well i can say)
now he installed Steam. and he opens Counter Strike 1.6 and he cant move from there.. he cant join server .. or go to options .. or make a server.. coz.. it freezes.. or goes black or shows a blue screen...
it playes any other games.. but not cs .. dont know if there is smth like a patch or smth.. help plz

my advice would be this..

1) Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.
2) Go to the Steam/Valve/Half Life forums and ask there. If there are any known conflicts between cs and the x800gto, then they would know.
