ati x800 xt platinum edition

- Good card.
- Overpriced -- like all "platinum edition" cards
- (semi) Phased out. The "plain jane" X800 lineup of cards has been discontinued by ATi in favor of their X850 lineup however ATi in all their marketing brilliance, decided to make the market confusing by semi-ressurecting the X800 lineup in the way of the X800 Crossfire series
- If you're considering an X800XT PE, id suggest you consider a X800XT (or X850XT or X800XL) ... much more financially sound choices
- The cards in the general class of the X800XT PE are: X800XT, X850XT, X850XT PE, 6800GT, 6800U, 6800UEE, 7800*
- The card would run BF2 plenty fine

i don't know if by plenty fine you mean highest settings, but i have one, and it isn't happening. i guess that just shows how much everything i have has become dated :(

Athlon XP 2200+ @ 1.8ghz
512mb sdram
audigy 2 zs
motherboard @ 4x agp

would ram or an overclock help me, or is my system "bottlenecking" the hell out of this card?

ram would definitely be holdiong your system back. in order to play any game good, you need to match or exceed the recommended system requirements

Yes I mean highest settings. However with your setup, if we added an X800XT PE to your box, the videocard would be bottlenecked

so you don't think it's the processor?
Oh its the processor, motherboard and RAM :)

could you recommend a good amd-based mobo/cpu? i don't know what's good and what's not these days... don't worry about price.

Well if you want to stay within single-core processors, something like the AMD Athlon64 3800 [Venice] and a DFI LanParty4 Ultra board make for a nice and cost effective platform :)

My friend has the same problem, you need more ram m8, atleast 1GB to run everything in full, infact you can already run everything in full expect textures (recomend LOW setting with 512mb). (excludes AA keep it to 2X or no AA)

I play with everything at max and 2XAA with the specs below.

The game can run smoothly down to 1.2Ghz, first step would be to buy a good 2X512MB kit ready for future upgrade, Newegg sells a great deal on cosair 79.99$ for 1GB dual channel.

Well unless yer doing software rendering, textures are loaded into video memory. Not system memory. Furthermore, not all games benifit from massive amounts of memory: take Doom3 for instance ... not even say 5fps difference between 512MB and 2GB

went out and got a stick of 512 today. it helped .. i can run bf:nam at the highest possible, even tweaked to quality. but bf2 is a different story.. every bit of my 1gb of memory is used.. now i'm wondering if i should go higher... to 1.5gb or 2gb... i'm def going to if i can play bf2 at highest with it.. i already can play it semi-smoothly @ 1024x768 with everything maxed out, but it's still nothing great that you would actually want to play in........
