attempting to install Linux Mint

I downloaded and installed Mint to my HD. I rebooted and chose Mint as the OS, but I get about 6 messages claiming my input buffer is not empty aborting transaction. It then comes up to the main Linux page and just sits there. This is something new for me that I just wanted to play with, but it is frustrating.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I now attempted to start in verbose mode, whatever that is. It appeared to be installing, but now came to the screen where is says "checking installation", and it tells me it's "formatting swap space in partiton #1". However, it's been sitting at 0% for 15 minutes. Could this possible take hours to perform?

Well, I got a little further. I opened it with the live CD demo (read only), and then clicked install. I got all the way to the last step and now it tells me that a couple mount points can't be unmounted. What the heck is it talking about? I've attempted to let the program try and unmount them, but to no avail.

sounds like either your download didnt go correctly or some files got corrupted when they were burning, thats what happened to me a couple times. the way to make sure your download goes correctly is to run checksum and that'll give you a bunch of hex numbers then you have to compare those numbers to what the checksum is supposed to be (just google 'mint checksum'), if it matches up then your good. also when you're burning the disk, make sure to run on low burn speeds.
