<AUD$600 Laptop

So I was thinking of getting a laptop (just a thought), but I'm *really* tight on budget... everything (shipping & whatnot) must *not* exceed $600 aussie dollars (I'd rather have it below/at $500). I'd rather not have a used one (refurbished is OK, but it needs to come with a decent battery). I'm looking for a just-adequate-for-the-task computer, mainly I'll be doing homework, internet browsing, listening to music & stuff like that, and *extremely* lightweight gaming (pre-2003 games pretty much all'of em - and none of them too demanding even back then).

The thingy does NOT need to come with an OS, I'll probably install Linux (and possibly dualboot with w2k/98SE depending on availability of drivers). Wireless internet is a must.

Also, depending on how much memory it comes with, I might have/want to upgrade...

I'm trying to avoid sites like eBay... now my question is, where should look for them? Currently living in Melbourne, so they need to be able to ship to AUS.

G'day M8,
My Grandad today just bought a Lenovo 3000 Notebook from BigW for $598.
I helped him set it up today and its a great machine, i highly recommend it!:D
Very very very well built!! Great battery life!
Just go to BigW and look for the Lenovo for $598.

Hmm a nearby store sells Eee PCs, anyone know what Eee PC 4Gs are like (they any good)? I might just get one of them... is a 4G at AUD$450 overpriced?

If you want a laptop i wouldn't bother with the eee pc, their more of a pda replacement than a laptop.

The lenovo just recently got a price cut from $798 to $598 thats why we bought it. ;)

Nice!
Well I don't specifially want a laptop, EeePC is...well, it's a portable computer under $500, and it's got pretty much all I'm looking for. I might have some trouble stretching my budget over $500... damn. I'll just have to go see the shops this weekend, and see what they've got. If I'm not in much luck, I'll probably go for e PC... unless someone comes up with something else... or objects.
