is this better than audigy 2? i hear its more for professionals than gamers.. im sure its not as good as X-Fi... but i bought the audigy 4 at circuit city, says its compatible with EAX 4.0 and it came with a remote control + IR sensor... not bad i guess.
any input on this product? the box says "sound blaster Audigy 4" its not audigy 4 pro then

So you go out and buy a product and then ask for peoples opinions after buying it?

The Audigy 2 ZS has a higher Signal to Noise Ratio than the Audigy 4 (108dB vs. 106dB), which is the only real difference I can see when comparing the two cards. There may be some minute differences, but they most likely won't be noticed if you are just using the card to play games, listen to music and watch movies.

the cheapest I can find an Audigy 2 ZS is £40 GBP delivered. Can anyone else get it cheaper (UK)

What will the card be used for? If the answer is music, then neither of these cards are the best alternatives!

Well, not the best of course but you will still get heck of a sound.

what are you talking about... you barely need anything to play music lol... what really stresses it is gaming, with like 100 sounds, all with their own location in the surround sound... lol
music playback doesn't require almost any processing at all...
i duno, this card is the best card i've had yet... surround sound, wireless remote control, EAX 4, OpelGL or w/e its called that Quake 4 uses...
haven't had a single problem yet

Sound cards definately do make a difference with music, unless you have a tin ear.

I personally can tell the difference between an integrated audio chip (such as an AC97), and something of better quality (like a SB Audigy 2 ZS).

yea, see theres one problem with that is that there is more than one type of AC97. my old gigabyte mobo had crap sound, it had enough ports for surround, but it didn't support surround and the quality was crap i agree. but my current ECS mobo has nice surround supporting AC97 thats decent quality. the audigy 4 supports new technology such as openAL or wutever and EAX which in those cases it does sound much better.... but for music playback between my last two chipsets (ECS integrated + audigy 4) the quality hasn't really changed at all. you don't need anything super special... (audigy 4 being one of the ones that isn't super special since i only payed $50 for the thing) just to playback music. i mean as long as the music is encoded well at 128kbps or higher then it should sound just fine.
(personally, i prefer iTunes :D its not amazing but its better then WMP :P)

Go to this website:

www.head-fi.com

Go to the computer-as-source forum. Post something saying that, and be flamed.

My choir teacher had an Audigy 4, for recording and stuff, i dont know if you would want to use it for gaming.

OpenGL stands for Open Graphics Library. What does that have to do with sound?

I don't understand why people post about topics they don't know anything about

I thought that was sufficient and should have left it at that.
