Hi, I've been trying to find a program to do something that, as far as I can tell is impossible. What I need to do is convert a .wav file to a MIDI file. For my senior project I'm composing a piece of music with a program called finale. Now there is an option in finale that you can save the notation file as an audio file. I did that and then I had a brain fart. I thought I had saved it and closed the program despite the "save changes?" Warnings. The problem here is that finale Can't read .wav files. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it!

I can supply my file, or anything if anyone needs me to. Oh, and I also tried googling around for midi converters and whatnot, but none of them worked

Well, I really appreciate the help, bit that unfortunately didn't work, whenever I try to convert the wav to midi it sounds like when you slam your hand on a piano keyboard...over and over again XD It could be that I'm doing it wrong somehow, so if anyone has any suggestions of other programs, or how to work with theses ones, that would be great

I haven't had much experience with Finale to help yet. I've only used Notepad and am waiting for the full version from my band director.

Though you could just google "(Song name here) MIDI".
 
One option would be to first convert the file into another format like mp3 or another format that Finale will be able to open. From there once open you can try saving in the correct format for the project there.
 
The only type of file that finale can open that could be considered audio is midi. I think I'm probably screwed over...oh well, if anyone else has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.
 
Once converted into another format like mp3 you will have a better chance of finding a converter that will work. You might have to go from wav to mp3 to another format where a converter will then take that and make a midi out of it. Once in midi afterwards you would be all set.
 
Sorry about the looong delay in response, I just decided to re-compose what I had, it sucked, but hey, I think it's better than before, thanks for the help though
 
Hopefully you saved the original in case you find a good tool for file conversion. At least get it converted into mp3 since there are far more players available where you still may find a working tool for converting it to midi.

Have an IPod so that your teacher/professor will still be able to hear what you worked on? You could also burn a music cd with it once converted to mp3.
