can someone help me....

I have no sound, and I cannot open up the "volume controls".

When I try, I get a error message sayin that there are no mixer devices...

But I cannot figure out how to install one...

I'm running xp pro

I'm not going to guarantee this is it but...
Go to Start -Run - and type in "services.msc" without the quotation marks. Click "OK". Scroll down the standard list in the box that opens, until you come to Windows Audio.Double click on it. In the box that opens,in the General tab make sure its on automatic Startup Type. If not, change to auto. Below that make sure that under Service Status its "Started" If not click on "Start" and then apply. Close everything out and reboot.
If not,is this a new computer and/or has the audio worked before?

also try rightclick on my computer, go to properties, then hardware tab, then to device manager. expand the sounds, video and game controller tab. right click each one and press uninstall and when it prompts you click yes. then reboot
