I got Winetricks to download through the software center. Is that alright?

There is no Sound Driver list, like in your photo.

run
wine --version
in a terminal please. I think that might be the root of our problem.
also run a
ls
in a terminal as well.

Alright. I'm using a outdated version of wine, I'm updating to 1.3 now.
As far as your cd problem, linux is case sensitive.
So, you could probably just do a
cd Downloads
and that will put you in your downloads folder.


Edit: updated, I have steam installed now. downloading CS:S, going to be a while though. In the meantime, can you start steam ok? Also, if you can, disable in game community under settings.

Do you think they'll ever make games native for linux?

Well, they already do just depends on the developer. For instance, any game written in java will work fine. But big name companies? Who knows. There is supposed to be a native linux steam client in the works, but i doubt it will ever get released.

Why don't you think it will ever be released? Microsoft and Apple forcing them not to? Btw, thanks for all the help. More of a pain then it is worth trying to get the games run on steam.
