I'm well aware of the overheating issues with this model, but I don't think I have an overheating issue. This weekend my laptop would simply turn off, no warning just black screen. Sometimes you could push the power button and get it to reboot, and sometimes when you pushed the power button it would do nothing unless you waited a while. The cpu temp never got over 42c, all dust is cleaned out of it. It did this plugged in or on battery. I can't 100% confirm this but it seemed to happen whenever I moved it around while using it. Is it possible the battery could be causing this? I took the battery out and so far it hasn't done it but I haven't used it that much to confirm this. The battery held a charge and worked fine.

Well, im not to smart about laptops and im not sure about this, but i've heard that sometimes the part on the motherboard that detects when the lid is down starts to break down and it thinks that the lid is down causing the laptop to shut down randomly. I am not sure if thihs is your problem but it's just a thought.

Never thought of that, how would I check this?

go to Control Panel > Power Options

go to the Advanced tab and look for the "When I close the lid:"
choose "Do Nothing" from the drop-down menu...

see if it still acting up...

Turned off all power options including "when i close the lid", it is still acting up. Here is what I know so far

1) I don't think it is a overheating issue, I set the computer on a table, turned the fan on high, temp came down to 33c, I touched the lid and it shut down. Did same thing second time, started picking it up from bottom of computer and it shut down. As I said above, according to the temp program my computer is not getting much above 40c

2) Usually when it shuts down, I have to unplug the ac cord then plug it back in, than I can turn the computer on. If I don't do that it won't turn on.

3) does it on ac or battery

4) Does it while just idle in windows or running programs

5) Shutdown gives no warning, it goes from windows to black screen instantly

any suggestions?
