autorun not working

I hope this is the right place for this. A thousand pardons if it's not.

Whenever I put a flash drive in the flash drive hole, the "autorun" window doesn't pop up. Of course, I can work around that, but it's so much more convenient when it works. It's a computer that used to be my wife's and I'm quite certain that it's worked in the past.

Can anyone help me figure this one out? Thanks again.
 
Look to see if you have update KB971029 installed. If so, uninstall it. It's security feature that disabled autorun on usb drives. Usb drives can easily get infected and this is why the feature was disabled in the update.

I would highly recommend not to use autorun on the usb.
 
Thank you, John. I will defer to your knowledge and experience on this one. I think I'll leave it as it is. It's not that inconvenient to get to anyway.
