AV/Firewall

I don't mind purchasing it, as long as it'll suit me. I'm looking for a great AV and firewall for my PC. I'd like it to always be on and working, and not lag me while I'm gaming. I've tried Avast! Free, but it keeps expiring and getting annoying.

It'd be a bonus if the purchase came with multiple licenses, or a bigger bonus if it's free.

Thanks.

I've heard Trend Micro is good. Just don't get Norton, haha. I would play a game, and then my fps would drop to 20 and my HDD would shoot on. Even if you turn off the schedule, it likes to surprise you with scans. Right now I'm on Sophos. It's not great but it was provided by my school.

Antivirus - NOD32, Kaspersky, Avast, and Avira. The last two have free versions. The first 2 are $ only. You can get multi-year liscenses.

Firewall - COMODO, Online Armor

I use Avira AntiVir for my anti-virus and Comodo for my Firewall, i recommend trying them if you already haven't. :good:

I myslf am a strong believer in the layered method in that one picks and chooses the antivirus, firewall, and antispyware program rather than all-in-one suits though there are some very good ones.

My Main Rig: NOD32 Antivirus (love it), Online Armor for my firewall, and SuperAntiApyware. All are the $ versions. I have been very well protected.

Second Rig: Avast 4.8, Online Armor, SuperAntiSpyware and all are the free version. Avast automatically updates, SAS you must manually update. With the latter 2 you are limited to your options but once I trained my son how to properly navigate the web I have had no infections.

So I should look into a dedicated firewall and antispyware program too? I like NOD32, as well. Thanks.

Well there are those that will argue against software firewalls and antispyware software with real time protection, but I know quite a few techies that do PC set-up and repair for a living and they always recommend having both.

Antivirus for the $ - Kaspersky, NOD32, Avira Antivir, and Avast with the latter two having really good free versions that are updated daily.

Firewalls - COMODO (free) and Online Armor (free and $; I run the $ version in my main rig). I don't know if OA has released their Vista Version yet.

Antispyware - Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. I run the $ version of SAS and love the tons of configurations I can do. I know many who find Malwarebytes an excellent product.

What makes all of these great is they don't demand a lot of system resources. Others will have their own preferences but I know what has worked for me and others as well from interacting with them. Hope this helped.

Alright, is NOD32 and active scanner? Thanks.

If you mean does does it operate by resident scanning by always running in the back ground doing its job, then yes it always actively scans. Everything I listed in my previous post are resident protective.

However, if you are talking about the actual scans themselves where they scan everything you either a) can set a specific date and time that they automatically do so (except the firewalls) or b) you can manually scan.
