AV Slowdown

Hey guys, I need your opinions. A buddy of mine is having money problems at the moment and can't afford an upgrade just yet. He's running a PC on 2GB RAM ad he was using Immunet free with no problems, but wanted better protection, so he tried Avast Free, but now it takes a long time for his browsers to load and open. He clocked 25 seconds just for Chromes homepage to open and 15 for Firefox. Is there an antivirus he can use that will run easier on the system? I was thinking about Panda Free, Bitdefender Free or 360 Internet Security. Any thoughts or opinions are very much appreciated.

Well Avast Free is very light actually.

What is exactly his system specs and what OS is he running? Has he ever done some cleaning with CCLeaner or defraged his disk?

What operating system is he running? With only 2gb, no matter what you choose it will slow down. Does he have a lot of programs running at boot up? Are there a bunch of icons down by the clock? Are you sure he's malware free?

Hey guys, all I know is that he's clean, no malware, uses Ccleaner, Malwarebytes Free and doesn't have many programs at all. He was using Immunet Free without any problems, but wanted better protection, so he completely removed Immunet and any traces of it , then intalled Avast Free. That's really all I know until I hear from him. He asked me for help and other than the free versions of Panda, Bitdefender and 360 Internet Security, I don't know what else he could use, so I came here to the experts.

If avast slows it down then uninstall and try Bitdefender. I hear good things about it.

Not the payed version. http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html

Unless you want to buy it.

Sucker can be a PITA because it messes with debugging. So don't try game hacks. LOL

I use Bitdefender free, but it jacks around with System Restore. When I tried a restore it said it didn't complete. So you have to uninstall Bitdefender temporally I guess. I fixed my issue without using System Restore though. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/456857/system-restore-did-not-complete-successfully/

Bitdefender protects alright! I'm still using it as it's quit good. I used to use Avira but that went down hill and trying to remove it is a PITA. You have to use Everything.exe and safe mode and after uninstall search for Avira and remove those files left behind. Plus you would have to use their registry cleaner.
