Avast free anti-virus

I just installed Avast (free) anti-virus, version 5.0.677, due to some recent positive comments. Once installed, I cannot determine whether or not this software scans my personal home computer automatically - or do daily scans require a manual request.

It usually only does a full scan on its own if you schedule it to. Otherwise the resident shield will continuously protect you.

If you go to Scan Computer and click on one of the preset scans "more details" you will see a summary of the current status and the Settings button. Click the settings button to change settings. You can also create custom scans.

Overall settings are accessed from the Settings button at the top of the main interface.

Make sure you register, you have a month to do so. You onlu have to input a name and a valid email address. Oh and about the scans, you have to set them manually, but the one trully great option Avast gives is a boot scan. Scans in this program take a little long to complete but are thorough.
