Average pc prob.

Hi everyone.

I am new to the forum, and I do have a problem - PC won't boot.

There seems to be power coming to the power supply (green light is on when plugged); the PC is plugged to a power strip (which works fine, the monitor is plugged to the same strip too and it works.)

Anyways I can't boot the PC. The fans will not turn. I previously did some cleaning on the PC, and I unscrewed one of the fans to vacuum. I then put it back on again, but the screws seem to be loose. I took that as a minor issue so I cared less. Would that be the culprit. Anyone can do a diagnosis from this?

The PC is an HP, around 4 yrs old. I am not experienced when it comes to this level, so I gladly appreciate anyone's help.

That sounds like you may have killed the motherboard. When you vacuumed it out, I think one of two things happened:

  • Static killed the mobo
    or
  • You forgot to connect a cord.

Are all of the cords plugged in inside the case?

Yes everything is connected.

Problem is, I did the vacuuming like weeks ago, and everything worked fine after that until now.

I have suspicion that it was a power surge that destroyed my computer. Not sure though. yesterday there was lightning really near our house in the area, and y dad was using it all the way through the whole the thunderstorm. My power strip probably does not have a surge protector, but then the monitor was working and the power converter's green light was on.

But I just vacuumed it again.... hmm......
