AVG 8.0 Free Download Issues...

Hello,

I had a friend recommend AVG 8.0 so I downloaded it onto my laptop. After the download, anytime I typed into an Internet text-box or search-bar there was a 2 second delay before the characters appeared. Once I removed AVG, the issue was resolved.

Do you know why this might have happened? Is it something with the Internet Options? What can I do to prevent this from happening again if I try to re-download AVG 8.0? Thanks for your non-sarcastic reply, or just move on.

OK - well that is not very good. It will be like that because of the specs, so it will be slow. AVG 7.5 is better for the sort of specs.

It hogs some resources when it's scanning, not like Norton, but still... I suggest some other antivirus for your specs: Avira or Avast! are both great and free, and Nod32 or Trend Micro if you're ready to pay.

What do you think of Microsoft Forefront? I just found out that my school offers it for free. Oh, check out my latest thread...maybe you will have some clue more than me. Thanks.

When installing 8.0 did you also check off the option for the addon IE security toolbar? That's a new option for IE security seen with the latest free edition. That can uninstalled if problems are seen easy enough.

AVG is far better rated then the others suggested. Try running it without the toolbar. Besides that however most delays when typing any text are generally a display driver problem or setting more then anything else or perhaps your ISP was bogged down from traffic at the time during the busiest part of the day.

Incase you don't know what linkscanner is, it is the green checkmark you see next to search results in Google.

I have heard of bandwidth problems occurring with the LinkScanner component of AVG 8.0. To install it without the LinkScanner component, see http://free.grisoft.com/ww.faq.num-1338

That's one thing to look at from Grisoft's own FaQs. A quick way without removing anything of course is the option of disabling one of the items found for AVG in the msconfig as well to see if that's where the problem is.

Occasionally well before 8.0 went on I would see IE drag at times when the ISP seemed to bog down at different times. That entails a delay in seeing the home page as well as running a search. Soon the 768kbps dsl here will be seeing an overdue upgrade to 3mbps hopefully.
