AVG free...got virus,should i buy KIS 2010?

Hey guys,

I had a nasty virus on my pc...kept getting pop ups saying to buy some security sofware of somekind and apparently i had some backdoor trojan along with some other nastys,anyway AVG Free picked them up and removed it and my system seems fine,It has not picked anything else up.

My question is.....is it realy gone? Ive heard good things about AVG free and it seems to have done a good job but i want to make sure.

Im a Kaspersky user and never had any problems with it,No viruses ever made it to install themselves like it has here,But my sub ran out last week and i wasnt sure if i should get the KIS 2010 Package.

You think i should buy KIS 2010?
 
If you really like KIS, go for it.

I'm betting you've already scanned with Malwarebytes too? Also, scanning with Avast Free? Those two are really good.

Well its £15 for Kaspersky Internet security 2010 (1 year lic)
and £8.99 for Kaspersky Antivirus 2010 (1 year lic)

Im not sure if i should get the whole package or just the antivirus.:cool:
 
I will never trust AVG!

I used it for about year and it seemed everything was ok. I started to get "pop-ups" and Firefox would crash a lot. Then the Army started giving us Symantec for free. I installed it and it found over 30 Trojans. I did some research about them from the quarantine log in Symantec...some were "High" security threat. After the scan...never had an issue.

I think it would be the best to purchase a good quality product that you can trust.

Here is an article about a huge security test CPU magazine did. Excellent article..kinda long but breaks down all the programs.

I love CPU Magazine hehe.

£15 is cheap for KIS, and its the best security suite as far as im concerned.
 
I never pay for a AV...free versions are fine for my level of need which is really none...AVG is nice for easy ones...spybot/maleware bytes finishes the task at hand.


KIS is a good however a lot swear by it so if you like it then support them buy buying it :)
 
Three words: ESET Smart Security

If you're going to pay for security, make sure it's doing what it should be doing. NOD32 has been around for a long time and imo is the best. I've never had any virus or trojan undetected on ESET but found on another platform. More than I can say when I used to us Kaspersky.
 
Yeah i think i will do that then,I just like to know i have good security.

Avg and avast free are good,But from experience i have found it to miss some nastys :cool:

EDIT:@Concordedly....Eset smart security is alot more....£39 for a year.

i wouldn't buy anything. just run malwarebytes, if that doesn't find anything than you're fine. i've never had anything i couldn't remove with AVG free and malwarebytes.

I had so many issues with false alarms with AVG that I finally gave up on it after about three months of using it. And also, it let a few trojans slip past my girlfriend's computer (mostly fake virus scan ads) which took a lot longer to delete and kill off than necessary since I didn't know as much as I do now. That's why I really support ESET. I think it's a great product and it rarely does what it isn't supposed to whether that be alert you for a virus that isn't there, or skip an alert for one that is there. But it is more expensive.

I just think if you're actually going to spend money on keeping your computer safe, then make sure it's safe. I don't recommend spending money on anything that isn't necessary. If you can get by with AVG and malwarebytes then you have waaaaay more knowledge than I do. I hope someday I can get by with such.
 
I recommend Norton Internet Security 2008/2009.
Scans for Virus and Protects you across the Internet with Identity safe, phishing protection etc..

I had it for 3 years now and not a problem even though random tracking cookies may be detected and re-solved automatically and quickly. ;)
 
I really wouldn't recommend Norton. It's a major resource hog and I'm sure there's of lot of peeps on here that would back me up on that!
 
Yeah but Norton is VERY idiot proof...does everything for the user.

Reason I use it on my grandparents PC....makes my life so much easier. They feel like they are 100% secure so I don't get 10 calls a day about "can I download this?"

as long as you're even somewhat careful with what you do on the internet, there should no problems with AVG free and malwarebytes installed.
