I have avg on my pc. my brother just got norton for his laptop, its for 3 pc's so i could install it. is it better than avg?

Well you know I use it not on a good machine and it works perfectly. I am more than happy with Norton, and you know, if you want to stay clean, I don't think a few resources would be too much to spare...

And I'm serious about this: What the hell do you guys mean when you say it sucks RAM like no tomorrow? It doesn't for me...

i hate norton like hell but i like Norton2007 , even thouugh i dont use it i advise other ppl with proper ram to buy it

Disable Norton at startup and you'll see the difference. For me it was huge.

Norton was partly the problem with my friends computer. It was "too" safe and was blocking basically any network activity and downloads(though basic surfing worked) And as others have mentioned, it's a resource hog.

Now don't get me wrong, Norton is quite good when it comes to viruses and all. However, AVG should be plenty. My school offers Norton for free. I've downloaded it just to have a copy on hand :P

I had Norton for about three years, man, it sucked, it took too long to do anything... I swaped to AVG when I built my new comp, I'm glad I did, try AVG for a week, and if you don't like it, get Norton, however, I think you'll love it :)

get Avast. its soo much better than AVG and its also free. and Norton is a piece of cheese...well, my evil twin munster cheese....

Norton isnt realy that good,However i think that the new 360 is soppose to be alot better with the way it uses system resources lol:D
they made it less hungry i think now but i havnt tried it myself,My mate has.

I personaly prefer Avast over AVG but thats just my personal choice;)

no need to go out and buy antivirus software when you have free ones that are brilliant.

AVG everytime over Norton. I have AVG Pro 7.5 at the moment and with the every day updates, i know i am guaranteed ultimate safety. I have tried running AVG and Norton along side one another to note the comparisons/differences and AVG discovers a great deal more errors/problems than Norton ever does.

More frequent updates, better support, better software abilities as well as more protection features which are more easily fine tuned (all of course dependent on the software provider and software itself of course). There are quite a few reasons. I use N0D32 (which is a pay for piece of software / service) and it's just perfect. Friend had issues with his PC and he ran virus scans with Avast! and found no viruses. Installed NOD32 and guess what it found? Viruses. Now I'm not saying NOD32 is simply better than Avast!, just that it has picked up many things other free AV software hadn't.

Avast! isn't really 'better' than AVG. They're about equal in terms of features, security, ease of use and updates etc. People just prefer one over the other and depending on which one they choose depends on which one they recommend.

Rove.

avast even detects most macro viruses tht avg sumtimes misses. plus u can set the scanning intensity in avast.

All programs in the security sector will detect / prevent things others won't. Another prime example is in the spyware area. Ad-Aware picks up many things Spybot doesn't and vice versa. Although in saying that I haven't used either free Anti Virus in a while but back when I did, neither held anything special over the other. They both done their job to a sufficient level.

Rove.
