AVG will not remove virus.

Well like a fool I downloaded some viruses. I was on that chat program paltalk when a guy came in and posted a link for a free green or blue nick name, the ones you have to pay for.. So like a fool I click and download and got some viruses. LOL, I know its not funny, but it is because I knew better.

AVG scans and finds them, but will not quarantine nor delete them. When I go to test results then hit details for the scan time and date that found them, it does not show the location so I can not manually delete them.

What do you guys suggest I do?

When AVG fails to show you the locations the next one in line is Trend Micro's PC-cillin. That will be in shareware and automatically uninstall AVG. Then you have to provide an email address to wait for the activation code for the 30day trial period. But you need that to run House Call. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

It's also combined with a spyware remover, personal firewall, and you can even report spam as well as block access to certain types of web sites with it's settings and antiphising filters. But once you have the system cleaned it can hamper and knock you offline where you have to reboot to get back on again. If you have a name of the virus sometimes you can find a special removal tool or guide for removal.

Nothing is ruled out as far what type of program to use. The one thing about starting up in safe mode is that some antivirus programs won't run there. One set of instructions for booting in safe mode can be looked over at the site here under XP seen at http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Meanwhile you may to look over some steps at New York University for virus removal which also adivises the use of McAFee's Stinger cleanup tool. http://www.nyu.edu/its/security/virus/
 
Virus Gone...

Okay guys virus gone! Apparently the virus was in the temporary internet folder or something, because I ran CC cleaner, then AVG again and it’s not picking them up. I should have though of running that b4 I posted but I did not know the virus was in a temp folder. I often go online with AVG shut off. Just for email and sites I know. I wonder if that is not a good idea? As Always I Appreciate your Insights Guys…..:cool:
 
AVG isn't a firewall..so it doesn't really matter if you have it on or not, as long as you run it every once in a while.
 
There are some free "Firewalls" that may be of interest like Comodo, Jetico, and Sygate's free personal. The Trend Micro PC-cillin has a personal firewall rolled into the bundle along with antivirus and antispyware utilities plus an anitphising filter probably more effective then the one found in IE 7. An email scanner is also included in the package. Just use the msconfig utility to disable some features if it bumps you offline. The temp internet folder sounds more like some type of trojan or adware rather then a virus.
