AVGRSX.EXE Runtime Error

I have Windows XP.

I was running Disc Defrag and left my computer for a few hours. When I came back there was an error message, AVGRSX.EXE Runtime Error message.

It would not let me close out of the message box or the defrag box so I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del(x2) to restart the computer.

When the computer restarted, the Compaq logo came up then it just goes to a blank screen and you can see the cursor blinking at the top left of the screen. I can not get the computer to do anything else.

Any ideas? Thanks All

I can not get Windows to load up so there is no way I can load anything onto the computer. The only screen that comes up is the Intel Centrino screen then when the Windows Load up Screen should come up it goes to a blank screen with only the cursor.

Ive tried booting up in safe mode and cannot do that either.

I have AVG 8.5

I know I shouldnt have posted two, but I wasnt sure exactly where this problem should be categorized, I will delete the other post.

You don't need to load anything on the computer to run this, however, you will need to download that sofware on another computer and either put it on a floppy or cd. And then boot to the cd or floppy disk from your computer and run it that way.

Open the case, find the hard drive and it will tell what the brand is. Seagate, western digital, samsung, maxtor, hitachi.

I found out the hard drive is Hitachi.

I found a tool to download.... OGT Diagnostic Tool v9.0

Before I downloaded this I wanted to see what anyone thought about it. Is it the correct tool to dl??

I downloaded the drive fitness test to disc, Ran the disc in my hard drive and this message came up:

Non-System disc or Disc Error
Replace and Strike any key

The file downloaded was dft_v416_b00.EXE
This was the file titled 'Diskette creator for Windows OS'. When I try to open this file after downloading When I click 'YES' on 'License Agreement' A message box comes up saying 'No Floppy Disc Available'

Other times when I run it the error message does not come up, only the cursor in the top left corner.

Any other Ideas????? Maybe I didnt dl the right program?

Is your computer set to boot to cd first? Did you burn the drive fitness test to cd? You need software on your system to burn the iso image to a cd.

Yes I burnt the fitness test to CD.

I am not sure if my computer is set to boot to cd first.

When my system starts up I can hit F10 to ROM Setup. When i went into this I went to 'Tools' Then HDD Self-Test Options.
-- When I ran the test it stops itself and says:
Test 1 (Quick)
Error: Read failure

Sounds like your drive is bad then. To make sure your cdrom is set to first boot device you need to enter the bios and look for the option, usually under the boot menu.

When you first turn your computer on or reboot the computer, you should see where it says "press the delete key to enter setup" or something similar to that. It might be a different key but usually its the delete key. If you aren't familiar with it, i recommend having someone help you who is.

i think that the file "dft_v416_b00.EXE" that you downloaded and runned its
to create an bootable floppy disk.
if i am right, you need to insert an floppy disk first and then run the "dft_v416_b00.EXE"
so he can extract the files to the floppy so, in the end you can take the floppy disk
and insert it in your dead machine so you can boot from there.
