Avi Files and Subtitle srt files...

i have an avi movie and an srt subtitle file that both work fine. however, when i play the movie the subtitles aren't synch'd with the movie. they're a second or a sentence or 2 late. is there any way to fix this?? is it that i need the exact .srt for the .avi i have? both the avi and the srt have the same name.. Any help would be really appreciated.. thank you..
 
Use K-Lite codec pack and when you play the movie with the subs, a green arrow will appear in your task bar. double click it and go to the timing tab and adjust the time.
 
ive done that and adjusted the subtitles in a few different scenes of the movie. after converting the subtitles just go back to being out of synch. i haven't burnt and tried on a dvd player because i don't wanna waste the dvd!

im converting with winavi and/or convertxtodvd and then dvd shrink 3.2
