AVI to DVD! Help!

Hello there. This is my first post! I've signed up to see if anyone can help me with a problem I've not been able to resolve. I've recently gone broadband and have downloaded some AVI files which I tend to put on a DVD using either Roxio DVD Builder or Pinnacle Studio 8. Now, in both programs when I import an AVI I get no sound. MPEG's, no problem, but I don't have a AVI to MPEG converter. Can anyone (in easy to understand language!!) tell me how to get my AVI's to import with sound or suggest a free (as I can't afford anything!) AVI to MPEG converter without a nag screen/watermark?

Many thanks!

TMPGEnc (has a free version too). Pass it through there to get the M2V and WAV/MP2 files and then you can author it to IFO/VOB using something like DVDLab (not sure if thats free but u can use the demo), then you can burn it to DVD. Note that DVDs dont accept MPG files -- they need to be IFO/VOB

yeah and probably a better option as its both made by Pegasys and probably extensively tested together :)
