My grandma has asked me to turn some Video Recordings of my cousin playing Basketball so she can send them out to the family. She wants it to work in a typical DVD player. So basically I would make a AVI file to a DVDR file.
Are you talking about a proper dvd with menus (which is a fixed mpg format) or simply recording the avis in a format that will play on standalone players? The former is more universal since not all dvd players can handle the newer formats.
There are a few freebies around. You could check out the full list at VideoHelp. That covers the entire spectrum. Beware that you want something that is a "dvd author", not something that can simply record videos on to dvd-r.
I vaguely recollect looking at some free ones but found they are limited. The payware ones are not all expensive. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author but cheaper ones are more than adequate for Grandma!
That looks quite good for free. From what I've seen, the main difference between the free and pay software is that you get a lot more menu presets and flexibility with the pay software. Mind you, DVD Flick has the "entertain me" Tetris during the burn!
Well doesn't need to be fancy. I tried a program called AVStoDVD and it worked fairly well. Will try DVD Flick and see which one is better. I usually burn with Nero as I find any other burning software gives me problems. Long as DVD Flick can save to ISO we should be in business.
Thanks for the assistance

I am curious can you add your own background with Flick? I can't seem to figure that one out which is strange. So far it seems superior in every other regards except I can't seem to find a function to splice in 2 clips. It will auto play the next title clip but it wont actually merge them like AVS could.

Nevermind I found the forum templates and how to make my own for the menu. I also will use a joiner software to bypass that little limitation
I assume your Nero does not have the Nero dvd authoring? The earlier versions of Nero Ultra included DVD authoring. I'm fairly sure that's at least Nero 5-9.
No I have a lite version. It was cheapest at the time and I didn't need all the other stuff. It works well enough but perhaps I will demo it and test it out.
Well appreciate the help guys. I stole my buddies copy of Nero 10 and I dislike the Vision setup...there is very little customization (for the normal user) and DVD Flick kept giving me errors after converting a DVD. Gonna stick with AVS....while not as pretty I can choose custom backgrounds and not have any errors (least not yet)
