avira 2012

hello,

I have recently update Avira to the 2012 version on my xp computer.
With the previous version, I was able to remove the pop up ads (the one that sometimes asks to go premium) by going in safe mode and modifying the access rights in read/write of avnotifier.exe. I have tried to do the same with this version, however it doesn't seem to work.
Is there another solution (without going premium, of course) to remove these annoying ads (the popups that appear after each security update + the tooltips in the bottom right corner that also ask to go premium) ?

Thanks

Well yes of course that would be a solution, but if I chose to stay with avira, is there no solution to remove that ad ?

The detection level of avast is lower than that of Avira. I do like it's boot-time scan, but aside from that, Avira exels.

MSE is crap. I'd rather put Norton on my system. I tried it and regretted it very quickly.

Workaround

Try this:

1. restart your PC.

2. Type F8 to get into the safe mode of Windows.

3. goto: C:\Program Files (x86)\Avira\AntiVir Desktop\

UPDATE:
4. Open "ipmgui" with notepad. Delete everything and save it.
Now close it and right click on it --> properties --> security --> edit --> remove system --> apply.
INFO: This is neccessary because Avira would reverse your steps, when it updates Antivir, removing system permission prohibits it.

5. restart

---> The Popup Tooltip will not appear.

Tested on Win 7 64
