this program is awesome. must see. some awesome competitions on here can be held i.e. coolest looking and most inovative desk, coolest room, coolest desktop mod layout, etc.

The possibilities are endless, and this app makes it sooo easy! and the free version rocks!
You can even import buildings onto Google Earth for the whole world to see!
Also look at images of sketchup competitions in Google Images

P.S.
Remeber to leave the instructor window open until you read about all the tools. also scan through the middle tab of the tips at the beginning.

google's good for easy things

a lot of people on the car audio forum i belong to use it for mocking up enclosure designs

i wouldn't want to use to one build a house to code, tho :)

yes, google sketchup is not new.
the last version is Sketchup 6. i use it. i design a lot with it and then i love the Warehouse online. there you can download the models ready to use.
before sketch up i had to design the simple things with 3ds max but now there is no need.
i dont use 3d max for basic things now. sketch is much easier and saves your time.

Yea sketchup is really cool and really free.
Isnt AutoCAD a 2D program though, so it isnt much of an alternative. There are a lot of free vector design programs though. I would say S-up is closer to Inventor, a 3D Autodesk product, which i havent used. I know it is pretty close to Solid Works, which i am in the process of learning. So far its close. Im sure though that SW has a multitude of features SU doesnt.

As for autodesk, here is a link to FREE full versions of all the autodesk software. One thing, you have to have a .edu email. They are very good and the real thing except for a "made on an educational version" watermark.

ive tried this before

its not that bad of a program but it's too easy. It lacks thing to customize a building. not as effective as other thing i say

AutoCAD is 2D, inventor is 3D(I'm great with inventor), and solid works i have only used for 2 day and didn't like it, inventor is a lot better
