My friend wants to get a new computer, and he is thinking of buying from alienware. :o uh.. no. I told him he shouldn't. He said he wanted a comparison between lets say one alienware computer configured to the price of a dyi build. I told him there would be a big differance in price. I need your help to convincing him. -Thanks in advance. ~Holyjunk

Alienware :

Now thats on just a standard E6300 system, and gives a difference of $200

I literally threw that together so with a bit of tweaking it could be down a lot more

Also against some of their higher end systems the saving will be greater i'm sure :)

edit : - Also worth noting that the parts used here are generally excellent quality, PCP&P psu is nothing to sniff at, decent timings on the memory etc, could easily step a few things down, still have the same performance as the alienware but save even more

I actually saved money by going through dell believe it or not. (UK prices). I manged my spec below in my sig for only £800 (i bargained with the dell representative on the phone). I calculated building myself would cost me an extra £50 enough.

Maybe, but when you buy a Dell you get lower quality parts, and you can't overclock anything.

I got some good information from fstguide.com about what tech at what price. This my show your friend some better options.
