B/G wifi card with N setting

I posted a long time ago about my ancient laptop having a bios whitelist for wlan cards... I flashed a modified bios without the whitelist and it works great

But anyway... I put in this newer card I had laying around and it says it is a B/G card, however in the settings it shows the option for 11n under Ad-hoc Mode...

So does this card really have N support or not?

It looks like it's just a Windows quirk, the info I found online also says it's only 802.11b/g. One way to find out for sure is to connect to an 802.11n capable network and see what the link speed is.

Many of the Atheros cards are simply re branded. Your hardware probably actually has n capabilities, which are locked down in the BIOS. You can (with great caution) attempt to research and use the Atheros EEPROM Tool. Some have successfully unlocked the EPROM to work on and with N networks significantly increase speed and range. However it comes with risks.

I found the connection in task manager of all places (I knew I'd seen it somewhere...) and the link speed is only 54, so it's definitely G.

I wouldn't benefit much from the added bandwidth anyway. I briefly looked into that eeprom tool and it looks like a lot of work for little gain...

Thanks for the thoughts, I found what I was looking for haha. Either way its a lot better than my options before the mod.
