back pack or shoulder bag

Okay, for a laptop, which would be the overall better option for portability. A back pack or a shoulder bag. I'm a fan of the shoulder bag my self, but the laptop I plan on carrying in it is a good 10lbs. I'd also want to carry a text book or 2.

I guess what I'm getting at is, Though I like the shoulder bag, would it do better for me ergonomically to just go with a back pack?

A backpack would be a much better choice, as the weight would be distributed evenly between two straps instead of just one; especially with the weight of your laptop and that you want to carry textbooks as well.

Targus is one of the big names that makes bags. Have a look at those and see if you like anything.
