Back to Intel

So two days ago I bought an FX 8120 and 99FX-UD7. After some OCing to 4.5 and testing I am still losing significant frames in games. So screw it I am going back to Intel. I can get a full refund on the Bulldozer build. So here are the options that I am looking at:

I can get...

an i5 2500k for $160 + Full price motherboard

an i5 3570K for $190 + $50 off select motherboards.

There are deals for 2700K and 3770K but I don't need that much power

here is a link to their promotions. The motherboards that I would get $50 off are highlighted in yellow.

Right now I am leaning towards the 3570K with one of these boards

Thanks in advance guys.

Me and wolfe both didnt really like our extreme4's and never hear bad about gigabyte so id go for it, and idk if the deal is still going but it was supposed to be 10 off a hdd too

I think I am going to go with the UD5. It is $50 more but I do not want to skimp on anything this time around.

There seems to be a string of DOAs that are reviewed on Newegg. Microcenter has a 60 day return policy that I can take advantage of if it comes dead or breaks after it has been installed for a while.

Thanks Guys.

you obviously hear more about the DOAs than the normal functioning boards. I've used Gigabyte boards in 3 builds now, and have not had a single problem.

The UD3H would be just as good too.

It probably would be but I like the cooling on the UD5 better. I am planing on having a pretty hight OC if I can manage it with my cooler. The UD5 just seems like it will be a more stable board.

I know. I have just started to switch to Gigabyte motherboards for my own builds and ones that I build for friends. I really like their designs. Hopefully this will be no different.

What didn't you like about it?
BIOS 1.3 would barely stable OC (still can't get a stable oc) due to a lack of voltage regulation (LLC level 1 (no droop) has a run between .2 below and .09 above)). Does not throttle at extreme temps either. Boots 49*100 @ 1.300V but 50*100 will not boot even at 1.500V.

BIOS 2.0 (newest) amplified the voltage regulation issue. Droop is between .4 below and about .1 over on LLC level 1. Boots with 50*100 at 1.305V but it is not at all stable up to 1.450V which is where I stopped due to heat.

The SATA 6GB ports are lacking too. I get more speed out of my samsung 830 in my M90 than I ever did on the extreme 4 in 6GB ports.

Also of note is that Overclocks on the board are never truely stable at all. It will test stable for 24 hours on Prime 95, but after about a week of gaming and folding (not at same time) it will BSOD. Never does it on stock settings.
